Issue #51 of DulcimerSessions is a blend of a two technique articles and some Irish tunes in honor of St. Patrick’s Day!
- 1. “HOME-MIDDLE-OUTSIDE,” is a new system of playing accompaniment with the mountain dulcimer in more keys, written by mountain dulcimer/guitar/ukulele player Ehukai Teves.
- 2. “PIPE ON THE HOB,” is an Irish jig arranged for mountain dulcimer in my earlier Mel Bay book Anthology for the Fretted Dulcimer.
- 3. “COMPOSING ON THE HAMMERED DULCIMER” from Susan Vinson Sherlock, features good tips on this art, and her beautiful air “After the Rain.”
- 4. “SILVER SPEAR,” is an Irish reel arranged for hammered dulcimer from Maggie Sansone’s Mel Bay book Celtic Fair.
Hammered and Mountain Dulcimers have the same last name but are built and played differently. Both have unique musical voices and share lots of the same music. Most of our mountain dulcimer music includes notation that hammered dulcimer players will find useful.
We invite you to explore our 50 BACK ISSUES of DulcimerSessions.com – they contain lots of free lessons and musical arrangements, courtesy of Mel Bay Publications.
