Issue #51 of DulcimerSessions is a blend of a two technique articles and some Irish tunes in honor of St. Patrick’s Day!

  1. 1. “HOME-MIDDLE-OUTSIDE,” is a new system of playing accompaniment with the mountain dulcimer in more keys, written by mountain dulcimer/guitar/ukulele player Ehukai Teves.

  1. 2. PIPE ON THE HOB,” is an Irish jig arranged for mountain dulcimer in my earlier Mel Bay book Anthology for the Fretted Dulcimer.

  1. 3. “COMPOSING ON THE HAMMERED DULCIMER” from Susan Vinson Sherlock, features good tips on this art, and her beautiful air “After the Rain.”
  1. 4. “SILVER SPEAR,” is an Irish reel arranged for hammered dulcimer from Maggie Sansone’s Mel Bay book Celtic Fair.

Hammered and Mountain Dulcimers have the same last name but are built and played differently. Both have unique musical voices and share lots of the same music. Most of our mountain dulcimer music includes notation that hammered dulcimer players will find useful.

We invite you to explore our 50 BACK ISSUES of DulcimerSessions.com – they contain lots of free lessons and musical arrangements, courtesy of Mel Bay Publications.

Mel Bay Publications is the largest publisher of books for hammered and mountain dulcimers. You’ll find outstanding resources for playing techniques and many colorful music styles by visiting www.melbay.com. Many of these titles are now available as eBooks. For a complete listing of dulcimer eBooks: Click Here.

I invite dulcimer players to submit articles to me for possible inclusion in future issues of Dulcimer Sessions. We offer a small honorarium for those articles. Requests for articles on new subjects are also welcomed.

Enjoy! See you in our April/May ‘12 issue of DulcimerSessions.com!
