Welcome to the April 2008
issue of Dulcimer Sessions®!
The Mel Bay family of dulcimer books contains outstanding resources for a wide variety of music styles. You'll see what I mean when you visit www.baysidepress.com then click on Dulcimer in the left margin. That takes you to the Main dulcimer page. Click on Hammered Dulcimer or Mountain Dulcimer and check out the "All" line for a delightful browse!
This issue contains the following articles and music for your enjoyment:
- Mel Bay author Jeanne Page's "Touring O'Carolan Country and Playing 'Carolan's Receipt' on Hammered Dulcimer" includes the music, along with her story and photos of her musical pilgrimage to the Irish homeplace and grave of The Bard.
Mountain dulcimer players will also enjoy Linda Brockinton's article entitled "Turlough O'Carolan, Ireland's National Composer," which includes the piece "Sheebeg Sheemore."
- "Home on the Range" arranged for mountain dulcimer by Paul Andry. It includes a sound file and a harmony part.
- "Singing with the Mountain Dulcimer." Susan Trump has written an excellent and concise introduction to this art.
Hammered dulcimer players will find musical notation and chords in the above music.
Many thanks to our April issue authors. I invite hammered and mountain dulcimer players to submit articles to me for possible inclusion in future issues of Dulcimer Sessions. We also welcome requests for new subjects from visitors to this website.
