Nonesuch

for Four (or more) Hammered Dulcimers

by Sam Rizzetta

Although this is a collection of original music, I have included quartet arrangements that include this hypnotic melody. "Nonesuch" is a medieval dance tune that was a popular dulcimer quartet for the early Trapezoid stringband. If you have five players or more, get someone to play the drone part. This can sound like a tom-tom with the emphasis on the first beat of the measure. I recorded this as a dulcimer quartet on the reissue CD Trapezoid. Another version is on the LP and cassette Trapezoid, Tree Forks of Cheat, Rounder Records, which may be out of print.
